His drumming is deeply perplexing and seems to do injustice to musical parsimony while hitting it with a little plastic dog on the head. -- From highzero.org
"Brian Buta is a guitarist and vocalist who began playing guitar at the age of 13. He began writing music immediately after learning a few chords, making barely audible recordings using a cassette deck with a built-in microphone. In high school and college, Brian played in numerous punk and modern rock bands, and expanded his recording know-how to use multi-track tape machines. In 2005, Brian founded the Baltimore indie rock band FFHH and simultaneously began exploring digital recording. Over the past year, he has honed his skill as a guitarist, a performer, a songwriter, and an amateur recording engineer. Brian’s release of his first full-length solo album, False Colors, is the culmination of years of practice and dedication to music, performance and recording."
Dedicated to a snarling and seething aesthetic built up from broken parts of the discarded techno-culture, Ptak is an expert at what has been called "circuit bending"--the practice of violently rewiring existing commercial hardware to turn it against its own philosophic basis (ie., a limited notion of what it means to "function.") -- From highzero.org
"Cleo Khary spins the best Underground HOUSE music, Disco/Old Skool Classics, World Beat, and Afro-Cuban Rhythms at Sydonne's, 713 N. Howard St (betwn Madison and Monument Sts.)"
Absurdist composer and electronic musician performs with his "messy table of fancy electronic whosit and howsthat." Influenced by Devo, Talking Heads, Scratch Orchestra, People Like Us, Raymond Scott and Conlon Nancarrow, Dan’s music strives to take contemporary experimental composition and electronic music out of the circle of the esoteric intellectual gangs and hipster communities and place it into the more informal "fun time." His performance and compositional techniques shows strong influences from the Fluxus Movement, Spiderman, Absurdism, and the current movement in underground rock. While maintaining a constant performance and tour schedule he has spent most of his time working on pieces for brass ensemble, string quartet, solo cello, casio song workings, solo study and his study in mid and high frequency sine waves. Deacon has performed with Cat Power, People Like Us, Matmos, Tracy and the Plastics, Rasputina, Dufus, Kool Keith, MC Paul Barum, Daniel Carter, Prince Paul, The Chinese Stars, MF Doom, the Unicorns, Smog, Blue Oyster Cult, Oxes, Grand Buffet, Arab On Radar, Rainer Maria, the Aquabats and many others.
Inventor of the Chromaccord, a light organ that displays light along with music.
"Music is powerful and therefore entails responsibility. Music can evoke the fires of emotion within us, sometimes even the most important decisions of our lives. Everyday, I find that the number of people who take this expression for granted is rising at exponential rate. Power is being abused and we all suffer the consequences. You may ask who is the preprietor of this ever growing evil? It's none other than the modern major label. These crushers of culture destroy listeners and independent artists alike, robbing us of our imaginations and restricting the expansion of new ideas. The corporate freight trains that back these labels put these little restrictions on us. Sometimes they're hard to notice. Maybe you were just watching MTV one day. MTV seems to be the dictator of pop culture these days and the modern major label's best friend. Seen in 140 countries and 330 million households, MTV's drones non-stop, 24 hour propaganda probably more effective than the Nazis'. Maybe you were just watching TRL while they were forcasting next weeks popularity. If you accepted what you saw here, you're accepting everything it stands for. It ingrains this faulty benchmark for what defines culture and what is concidered talented artistry. These restrictions precondition us; manipulate what we like, our morals, and ultimately the way we live our lives."
