From Tony Foreman and Cindy Wolf, Norther Italian fare with small smoky and cheesy things in the big, brassy wine bar (Enoteca) and bigger meatier things in the somber dining wings (Osteria). Fritto misto for everybody.
"A casual tavern atmosphere downstairs, quieter non-smoking dining room upstairs. Clayton's features an American cuisine with a regional emphasis. Located in Historic Federal Hill, Clayton's features 15 eclectic drafts, wines by the glass and bottle and a full line of spirits, all designed to compliment the chef's menu. Daily features from the kitchen and nightly specials at the bar make Clayton's a geat destination!"
At Corks the wine list is every bit as important as the dinner menu (where entrée descriptions are accompanied by specific wine recommendations). The owners are wine fanatics who search out vintages both excellent and obscure and then craft a seasonal menu to complement their wine finds. We love that many wines are available by the glass, allowing each course to have its own appropriate quaff. The food is intelligent but fun New American, with standout dishes like a duck breast with watercress salad and mission fig tartlet. Attention to detail is evident in everything that Corks does, from smoking its own trout to removing menu items when ingredients do not meet the chef's demands for excellence.
"A small plates driven restaurant concept, Demi specializes in modern american cuisine with global influences. Demis intimate 32 seat space offers sleek and minimalistic decor, and includes 8 'chefs' stools that face our open kitchen."
"Innovative American, neighborhood gourmet, naturally elegant venue with a friendly, welcoming staff and an award-winning, five-star chef who tries to use as much local and organic product as possible. Basement atmosphere in wonderful Hampden, brightened by large photos of local produce in historic Hampden Theater. Try the crab soup at lunch with the turkey Rachel sandwich. At dinner, menus change regularly. Ask your server for the freshest recommendations."
Come here to try out tasting flights, wine by the glass, or entire bottles from the wine shop (marked up only by a modest corkage fee). The friendly staff kill themselves to demystify the wine-tasting experience, making it accessible and enjoyable. Food from neighboring markets--gorgeous antipasti from Ceriellos, awesome smoked morsels from Neopol--help make this the ultimate destination for before or after trips to the nearby Senator Theatre.
