Someone should sponsor a single Acela car every weekend, reserved for the avant-jazz/new-music scenes of New York and Baltimore in the name of inter-city collaboration. Bands like HighLife--and figures like acoustic bass mutant Jason Ajemian (pictured)--go together with what Baltimore has brewing right now, centered around the Windup Space, the Creative Differences series, the Out of Your Head collective (now partially based in New York, actually), and everything associated (or should be associated, if that doesn't catch everything). Or hell, imagine whole concerts happening on that train, two-and-a-half hour molten new-music jams blazing along through the backyards of suburban New Jersey at 135 miles per hour. Someone should make it happen just like once, please. We'd probably pay more than we can afford. (Michael Byrne)
