Mix some free jazz with some heavy metal, and what do you get? According to New York’s Jerseyband (pictured), you get something called lungcore—horn-based metal. And even though they wear crazy headgear and costumes onstage, these guys are no joke. Seriously, there is something about the heavy chords of metal that sound right coming from horns and Jerseyband makes the most of the combination. They’re celebrating the release of their new album, Forever Hammer, tonight with a reunion of Baltimore’s own heavy out jazz band Quartet Offensive (which has been on hiatus since Adam Hopkins made his way up to the less-fertile pastures of NYC). If you like music more adventurous than Katy Perry or the Band Perry, you should be at this show. Your mind will be blown. (Baynard Woods)
