The Todd Marcus Jazz Orchestra & Quartet
"Bass clarinetist and composer Todd Marcus is one of the few jazz artists world-wide to focus exclusively on use of the bass clarinet as a primarily solo instrument. Making the switch from the more common soprano clarinet in 1997, he subsequently developed a unique tone and angular improvisational style which currently mark his playing. The group utilizes a 6-horn front line that includes bass clarinet, alto saxophone/flute, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, trumpet, and trombone and uses a 3-piece rhythm section of piano, bass, and drums. The ensemble achieves a uniquely dark and rich texture of sound, incorporating jazz with different types of music ranging from classical to hip-hop to middle-eastern themes. The group swings hard and showcases each members' strong soloing."
