The Maryland Historical Society Museum houses a collection of treasures and everyday objects which celebrate Maryland's history and diversity. Among its more than 200,000 objects are paintings, furniture, silver, textiles, quilts, costumes, needlework, ceramics, glass, dolls and toys.

The Maryland Historical Society is having a banner year. With the 150th anniversary of the Civil War’s inception, the Mount Vernon museum rolled out an ambitious and fascinating exhibit of our state’s split North-South personality called Divided Voices: Maryland in the Civil War.

    During this anniversary year, two centuries removed from the War of 1812, America’s Second War of Independence, the Maryland Historical Society (MdHS) is retelling a dramatic story with 5,000 square feet of displays and more than 100 historic artifacts.

      All Marylanders (and other visitors) are able to see their role in creating the United States. Not only are prominent Marylanders be featured, but the exhibit also includes an authentic Revolutionary War uniform and three of Charles Wilson Peale’s life-size paintings. Personal effects of George Washington and other Revolutionary War leaders are on display as well.
